Accents Salon and Spa would like you to join us in welcoming our newest technician, Chandice Fletcher. Chandice recently moved to NorthWest Arkansas from Cleavland, Ohio where she worked at an Aveda Concept Salon. Chandice knew she wanted to pursue a career in the salon industry since she was a young girl. She began her career as a Cosmetologist in 2009. The experience and education she has gained helped her evolve into the strong stylist that she is today. She believes strongly in always bringing fresh ideas to her guests. Chandice wants to make a difference in each guests that she touches by creating a feeling of beauty. Chandice specializes in nail art, African American weave and natural hair, and eye lash extensions. We are very excited about Chandice being a new addition to our remarkable team.

Earth Month 2012

For Earth Month 2012, we have teamed with Aveda and created a page to help raise money to send to the Gulf of Mexico! We are trying to create more clean water for the world to have! One of our wonderful Master Stylist's, Megan, has created a page on Aveda's website to help spread the word and generate donations for such an awesome cause! We encourage everyone to help provide clean water for the world!

Dry brushing is one of the most important things you can do for your body to keep your skin healthy and radiant. Did you know your skin releases a pound of waste each day? The skin is often referred to as the "third kidney" because it creates a passage way for toxins to exit the body. (The second kidney is the lungs.) When toxins are unable to escape through the skin, they are then stored in fat cells, contributing to cellulite and fat deposits. With dry brushing, fat deposits are better distributed, which reduces the appearance of cellulite.
There are many other benefits of dry brushing for your body other than beauty.

-Dry brushing stimulates blood and lymph flow
-It removes dead skin cells
-It stimulates the hormone and oil glands
-Reduces cellulite
-Strengthens the immune system
-Stimulates the nervous system
-Tones the muscles
-Tightens the skin
-Nurtures the body

You may be wondering how to use your dry brush correctly. It is actually quite simple when you follow these little tips.

1. Brush your body before you shower, preferably in the morning.
2. Start at your feet and work your way up, always brushing to your heart.
3. Use firm but gentle pressure.
4. You can use long strokes or circular motions.
5. Brush lightly on sensitive areas, and more firmly on thick areas such as the soles of your feet.
6. Avoid brushing over and wounds or rashes.
7. Shower, trying to alternate from hot to cool (if you can stand it) to increase circulation.
8. Lightly towel dry and apply a lotion without minerals or paraffin.
9. Finish by washing your body again with soap and water, and dry thoroughly.

We are pleased to announce that one of our aesthetician's, Emily, is now offering a basic extraction service!

During the extraction service, you will relax on the spa bed as your face is gently cleansed with steam. Next, a hot towel will be draped on your face followed by extractions of impurities in the face. After the extractions are completed, your face will then be toned and moisturized for a healthy glow.

This is a quick mini facial without the time or expense! It is a 30 minute service, for only $35! This service is also great for in between facials, or teenagers having challenges with their skin.

Tipping Etiquette

Many people feel uncomfortable when it comes to tipping at a salon or spa. In fact, what to tip, who to tip, and how to tip is a complete mystery to some guests! If you feel that we are speaking to you, don't worry! You are not the only one with "tipping anxiety."

What To Tip:

Proper tipping etiquette is generally 15-20% on the services you receive. (Do not feel obligated to tip 15-20% of your total with product included.) If you feel your technician has gone above and beyond your expectations, then it is okay to tip at a larger percentage. On the flip side, if you were disappointed by the service you received from your service provider, speak to the technician who provided you with the service. If you they cannot provide you with the help you desire, then ask to speak to a team leader or manager. At Accents Salon Spa, we try and ensure guest happiness and guarantee they leave with what they wanted. From there, you must use your own judgement for tipping on the service you are unhappy with. If you are getting a very expensive treatment, such as Great Lengths Hair Extensions, it is recommended to tip 10-20%, or for the technicians time spent on the service. It is your call.

Who to tip:

Tipping is that "thank you" from the guest to the service provider. So tip the person(s) who provide you with your services. If one technician did your waxing, and another did your hair, tip both of them based on the total of the services you obtained from each of them. It is not necessary to tip the guest care team member who got a drink for you.

How to tip:

There are many ways to tip. One way, is to leave cash with your technician at their station when they have finished. Another way is you can leave cash with the guest care team at the front desk. At Accents, we attach a piece of paper with your name, and the technician's name so they know it came from you. The tip is then placed in their tip envelope at the front desk. You can also add gratuity on to your credit card, or include it in the total of your written check.

Tipping does differ in different regions of the country, and around the world. So when in doubt, ask the receptionist. He or she will generally provide you with an answer that they find most customary at the salon or spa you are at.

NEW PRODUCT LAUNCH -- INVATI

Aveda has announced the launching of a new product line called INVATI! We are very excited about this product because it creates, thicker, fuller hair for people who suffer from thinning hair. When we got our hands on the new line, we gave it to our Hair Floor Team Leader and Color Coach to test it out. Here is her testimony:

"I am Diane. I work for Accents as a master stylist and Team Leader, and I have very fine thin hair which has gotten thinner after taking thyroid medicine! I have tried Nioxin for years and just haven't seen very much of a change. I am excited to announce a new product line that I am testing from Aveda for thinning, fine hair! It is called INVATI, and consists of a four part system : shampoo, conditioner, a scalp spray, and coming soon, a vitamin to add to the regime. I have been using the system for three weeks only, and I can see and feel an amazing difference in my hair! This last Friday, we hosted our annual Guest Appreciation Friday sale and the turn out was great! Our loyal guests showed up bright eyed and bushy tailed at 6am to take advantage of our BOGO gift cards! Doing such a task after being in a Thanksgiving food coma is tough, we all know, but our team and our guests made it happen! We had hot coffee, Aveda comforting tea, juice, and breakfast foods to make the blitz shopping experience as pleasant as possible! These gift cards were a great way to knock out your christmas shopping at half the price! We continued to run other great specials throughout the day. We would just like to thank all of our guests for such a successful Guest Appreciation Day!
